Sibu police rescue 10 suspected Filipina trafficking victims


SIBU: Sibu police raided a premises at Jalan Hardin here and rescued 10 Filipino women believed to be victims of human trafficking, today.

Sibu police chief ACP Saiful Bahari Abdullah said initial investigations revealed the women, between 20 and 30 years old, were brought into the country using work permits for entertainers but exploited for immoral activities for almost a year.

Police also detained a 54-year-old local man who was the caretaker of the premises to assist in investigations.

“The victims are currently under police custody,” he said when contacted.
