Stop lying, PKR man tells Malacca CM

PETALING JAYA: PKR Vice-President Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin has slammed Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron over the latter’s remark that the US Department of Justice’s (DoJ) action to recover assets acquired using monies allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB was a political ploy to “kill” the Malays.

In a statement today, Shamsul said he was “embarrassed, disappointed and disgusted” with Idris’s statement.

“Yesterday, Idris likened DoJ’s laswuits to the US’ invasion of Iraq to topple the country’s ruler Saddam Hussein in 2003.

“This clearly shows the failure on Idris’s part to understand DoJ’s function and role to investigate all the wrongdoings within their jurisdiction,” the Bukit Katil MP said.

Idris reportedly said yesterday that the US DoJ’s move to seize more than USD1 billion (RM4 bil) in assets, including luxury real estate and a jet allegedly bought with money pilfered from 1MDB last month, were questionable.

He then likened the move to the US’ invasion of Iraq, which was “unjustified” as no weapons of mass destruction were found.

“You cheated the Iraqis, you killed the Iraqis, and now you want to kill the Malays in Malaysia. This is nothing more than a political ploy to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak,” Idris had said.

“It is utterly shameful that a Chief Minister can be so “blind” to judicial matters and release such statements to cheat the public.

“Is Idris willing to say the same to the US Ambassador to Malaysia?” asked Shamsul.

He charged that the “twisted” statements by Umno members proves that they are willing to lie in order to hide corruption, and betray the trust of the people.

“I ask the people of Malacca, and Malaysians in general, to be smarter than the chief minister and their prime minister.

“To Idris and other Umno leaders, I would like to say ‘enough of your lies to the Malays and Malaysians’.”
