Four family members killed in early morning crash

KUALA TERENGGANU: Four members of a family were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry in Jalan Kampung Bukit Nanas, in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Nanas, here early today.

All the victims died on the spot in the crash which occurred about 1am.

They were car driver Alif Faizal Ibrahim @Ismail, 26, his uncle Mustapha Abdullah, 56, cousins Azman Mustapha, 32, and Mohd Sabri Ngah, 48. All of them were from Kampung Seberang Takir.

Their bodies were sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for a post-mortem.

A team from the Fire and Rescue Department took about half an hour to extricate the victims from the wrecked car.

The crash was believed to have occurred when the driver of the lorry, which was heading towards Wakaf Mesira, lost control of the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane and collide with the car.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement head Supt Shahrum Hashim, when contacted, confirmed the crash.

He said the 46-year-old lorry driver, who was not injured in the crash, had been detained for further investigation.
