Ku Nan against use of ‘Bersatu’ and ‘Amanah’

PETALING JAYA: Umno Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor wants the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to stop Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia using the acronym “Bersatu”.

He said the party should not use this short form as it is a common word that could mislead the people.

He said “Bersatu” was used in common slogans like “Bersatu Malaysia Maju” and “Bersatu Bersetia Berkhidmat”.

“I urge the Registrar of Societies, if they want to approve then go ahead, but if it is possible tell them not to use the word ‘Bersatu’,” Tengku Adnan told reporters.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin submitted an application to register the new party yesterday.

Tengku Adnan, who is also federal territories minister, also questioned the use of “Amanah” in the registration of Parti Amanah Negara, which is now commonly referred to as Amanah.

“Amanah is also ‘common’.

“Therefore, I hope the ROS director-general could look into this, where they are using words like this to confuse the public.”

Tengku Adnan was confident that despite the emergence of new parties, Umno would stay strong.
