PETALING JAYA: Youth activist and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) pro-tem committee member Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman may be an idealist, but he is certainly not a racist.
Responding to a Facebook post by blogger Lim Sian See, Syed Saddiq claimed the upcoming new party formed by former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad will, along with its future coalition partners, fight for Malaysians much better than Barisan Nasional (BN) which is “predominantly dominated by Umno and Umno only”.
“This party will be fighting against corruption, for integrity and issues concerning all Malaysians. And on those issues, this party will do a lot better than Umno, MCA and MIC combined,” he told FMT.
Lim, in a Facebook post yesterday, slammed Syed Saddiq whom he said had always tried to project himself as a young, idealistic and multi-cultural individual but ended up being a founding member of a “racist party”.
On that, Syed Saddiq slammed the allegation as ironic, coming from what he alleged was an Umno “paid blogger”.
Lim had also said that since Bersatu’s future president, Muhyiddin Yassin, officially applied for the registration of the party on Tuesday, many have claimed that its logo was copied from various sources.
To this Syed said: “The fact that they have to resort to these ridiculous tactics screams of desperation and fear.
“Different symbols of bunga raya (the national flower) are used by so many groups. Similarly, I can say that BN’s dacing (scale) logo, is copied from my aunt’s dacing.
“But I never made an issue out of it because it’s petty. We want to dwell on national issues like 1MDB, not the logo of the party,” Syed Saddiq added.
