PASIR PUTEH: The formation of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will not shake up Umno, but will definitely affect the Opposition pact, according to Umno Supreme Council (MT) member Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
In fact, he said the formation of the new party would also cause disharmony among the Opposition parties as they would fight for members, especially among the Malays.
“It also proves that the Opposition pact was never united in fighting for their causes,” he told reporters after opening the Pasir Puteh Wanita Umno delegates’ meeting in Kampung Pulai Lima here today.
Present were Pasir Puteh Umno Chief Zawawi Othman and Selising Assemblyman Zulkifli Ali.
On Tuesday, former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin submitted an application to register the new party at the Registrar of Societies office in Putrajaya.
In ALOR STAR, another Umno MT member Hamzah Zainuddin said the new party would never be able to take over the excellent role played by Umno over the past 70 years.
He said this was because the party was led by individuals with personal motives and agendas.
“The new party has no intention or principles to uphold the status of the religion, the race and the nation,” he said after opening the Kuala Kedah Wanita Umno delegates’ meeting.
He said this in response to former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir’s remarks that the party was committed to take over the role of Umno.
In KANGAR, Perlis Wanita Umno Chief Rela Ahmad said the movement unanimously rejected the formation of Bersatu, saying that members would stay loyal to Umno and would intensify their efforts to explain the current political situation to the people at the grassroots in light of the 14th General Election.
“Perlis Wanita Umno has been preparing our machinery to face the 14th General Election to ensure that Barisan Nasional will remain in power in Perlis,” she said.
