JOHOR BARU: Umno is in the midst of restructuring its information bureau, adding new and younger members in efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the next general election, information chief Annuar Musa said today.
“I have issued letters of appointment to those who are invited to sit in the bureau and the old bureau, I have temporarily dissolved it for this restructuring exercise. In addition to bringing in new and young faces, we will also outline a new focus and strategy,” he said.
The restructuring exercise was deemed necessary to enhance the preparedness of the party and the matter had been communicated to the party’s leadership.
Annuar, who replaced Ahmad Maslan as Umno information chief earlier this year, said the new bureau’s first meeting would be held next Sunday (Aug 21).
He said the bureau would also focus on reaching out to young and new members of Umno with the various messages and philosophies of the party.
“I myself will lead the political ‘tarbiyah’ (upbringing) programme by meeting the young and new members, so that they can appreciate the struggle of the party.”
“We cannot waste any more time, and more importantly have to change the way we work,” he said, adding that meetings with the information chiefs of Barisan Nasional component parties were also held to strengthen the coalition.
