New party ‘fishing’ for Umno members, says Zainal

KEPALA BATAS: Penang Umno liaison committee chairman Zainal Abidin Osman today revealed efforts made by a new Opposition party to “fish” for Umno members, especially those who lost in their contest for party posts.

He said he received information that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was looking for Umno members to join the party.

“The party network is said to be making contact with Umno members who lost in the party elections to get them to join the new party, but so far, no one has left to join Pribumi,” he told reporters after opening the Tasek Gelugor Wanita Umno divisional delegates meeting in Kubang Menerong, near here, today.

He said the Opposition party was focusing on Umno members who were fence-sitters and whose commitment to the party was fading.
