PORT DICKSON: The “tree of independence” owned by all Malaysians must continue to be fertilised so that it will continue to be luxuriant and provide shade and protection to the future generation.
Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan said the “tree” that had provided shade for all Malaysians in the country, should not be ‘killed.’
“Let us nurture the solidarity which we have developed all this while. This solidarity is the final bastion which is being destroyed by certain groups who have their own agenda and eventually will cause divisions among us.
“If we quarrel, the Malays will lose, the Chinese will lose, the Indians will lose and everyone will lose. We should cherish our independence and love our country,” he said in his speech at the state-level Fly the Jalur Gemilang launching ceremony at Dataran Teluk Kemang, last night.
He said the independence and comfort enjoyed by the people in the country did not come easily but was the outcome of a struggle by past leaders who had to work.
Also present were State Secretary, Mat Ali Hassan; State Exco Members; and Barisan Nasional component party leaders.
At the programme, Mohamad flagged off the Jalur Gemilang Tour convoy and handed over the Jalur Gemilang to 59 representatives made up of community leaders, heads of government departments and agencies as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
