PETALING JAYA: Malays may be silent but they are wise and will not fall for the lies dished out to them, said former Umno Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassin today.
He said the allegations made by Umno President Najib Razak and other members towards the new Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) would not make the Malays forget or forgive wrongdoings, including the alleged embezzlement of 1MDB funds.
“1MDB’s liabilities have risen to more than RM50 billion. A huge part of this money is untraceable and perhaps has disappeared,” the pro-tem president of Bersatu said in a Facebook posting.
“Will the Malays forget this and forgive Najib and his men? Of course not. It would be unfortunate if that’s what he thought.
“I am sure the Malays who possess great manners and etiquette will stand up together to fight against Najib and his men who have destroyed the race and the country’s dignity.”
He also chastised Najib for questioning Bumiputera-only Bersatu’s fight to defend the Malays, and asked the premier to obtain a copy of the party’s Constitution from the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
“Of Bersatu’s 13 objectives and aims, our top three is to uphold Islam as the federal religion, and to respect the rights of non-Muslims to embrace and practise their respective faiths in peace and harmony, to uphold the sovereignty of the Malay rulers’, and to defend the special position of the Malays, those from Sabah and Sarawak and the legitimate rights of all races.”
Najib yesterday questioned how Bersatu would be able to fight and stand up for the Malays while working with predominantly Chinese DAP.
He also noted that Bersatu’s pro-tem Chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well as Muhyiddin had once described DAP as a chauvinist party, which is opposed to Islam and Malays.
Bersatu is spearheaded by Mahathir, who last month said the party would cater to, among others, Umno members and supporters who are unhappy with the leadership of its president, Najib, but are not ready to fully switch to the Opposition.
It will work alongside other Opposition parties with the common goal of defeating Barisan Nasional in the next general election.
