PETALING JAYA: Robbers scooted off with jewellery worth about RM30,000 after they hit on a goldsmith in Putrajaya yesterday – the first such incident in the federal administration centre.
The Sun reported that the incident occurred at about 12pm when three robbers armed with hammers, barged into the gems store at Precint 15 and started firing pepper spray at the store’s staff.
The men then smashed the glass jewellery showcases with their hammers and scooped out the loot, before fleeing down a back lane to a waiting car and motorcycle.
According to the police, the store did not have a security guard on duty at the time of the incident. Police are however trying to trace the identities of the robbers, who were wearing helmets, as well as their whereabouts.
