KUALA LUMPUR: The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), leading the underwater search for MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean, has informed in an emailed update that the vessel Fugro Equator was standing by in the search area. Weather conditions are hampering search operations.
Sea conditions over the weekend were not suitable for deep tow operations, said the ATSB.
“The vessel is standing by in the search area until the weather allows search operations to recommence,” confirmed the email from ATSB’s Operational Search for MH370 Communications Officer Daniel J. T. O’Malley.
Weather conditions are forecast to be poor over the coming days, but improving towards the end of the week. Strong winds and rough seas are expected to impact the search operations.
Dong Hai Jiu 101 remains in Fremantle, according to the Update. “Projected weather conditions for the next several weeks preclude the effective deployment of search equipment from this vessel.”
Dong Hai Jiu 101 will remain at anchor off Fremantle until weather conditions improve, said the Update.
