Hilmi slams Penang’s lacklustre National Day preparations

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government has been urged to be more proactive in carrying out Merdeka activities including putting up flags at government buildings in the state.

Balik Pulau MP Dr Hilmi Yahaya said that he perceived the state government’s attitude as lacking in patriotism, and compared it to the state’s previous Merdeka celebration preparation that was started much earlier.

Dr HIlmi, who is deputy health minister, said this to reporters after launching the Merdeka Month and the closing ceremony of the ‘Jalinan Murni Mentransformasi Institusi’ programme, held at the Penang nursing college here today.

Dr Hilmi said patriotic activities should be actively carried out, regardless of political beliefs, because the Independence Day was a day that should be celebrated by everyone in the country.

Asked about a case of the skin-peeling side effects suffered by a woman in Kota Tinggi, Johor, after using a beauty cream product, Dr Hilmi said the woman could have been allergic to the product and advised her to file a complaint with the pharmaceutical department on the product.

He said, products sold in Malaysia must be registered with the pharmaceutical division, adding that consumers should be aware of their registration.
