KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Razak has expressed his pride in the Malaysian badminton men’s doubles pair of Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong in clinching the silver medal at the Olympics Games early today.
“Goh V Shem – Tan Wee Kiong have given their best. I’m so proud of their performance, the third silver medal #MAS! Congratulations!,” he said on Twitter.
V Shem-Wee Kiong lost to China’s pair Fu Haifeng-Zhang Nan 21-16, 11-21, 21-23 in a breathtaking game at the Riocentro Pavilion 4 early today.
Their second-placing secures Malaysia’s third silver medal after earlier victories by Pandelela Rinong and Cheong Jun Hoong in the women’s diving synchronised 10m platform event, and badminton mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also congratulated V Shem and Wee Kiong, saying on Twitter: “Tough fight. Congratulations to national doubles pair for having high fighting spirit. Sports unite all Malaysians.”
