GEORGE TOWN: Furious over some 100 banners which read “Anthony Loke for Penang CM” hung throughout the city here, a DAP division urged police to investigate the saboteurs who put up the banners.
Mount Erskine DAP chief D. Dayalan Kandiah said the banners were of major concern to his division, as it was signed off with the words “supported by Mount Erskine DAP”.
He said the banners were first spotted around roads surrounding Prangin Mall, and many other parts of town, written in English and Chinese.
The banner also had an enlarged picture of Loke, who is currently Seremban MP, DAP national secretary and Negri Sembilan DAP chairman.
Dayalan said although the city council had taken most of the banners down, he wanted the police to investigate who might have printed such banners.
“This is clearly the work of outsiders who are out to create disunity among DAP members.
“DAP members, let alone the ones from my division, would never do anything like that,” he said, when met by reporters outside the Patani Road police station here today.
Dayalan said the decision to lodge a report was reached at a committee meeting held yesterday.
“Our Mount Erskine branch is one of the most active branches in Penang, perhaps it is the work of saboteurs trying to stop us from going forward.
“If these saboteurs would like to test the unity of DAP members, just watch us in the next election for we stand united.” he added.
