PETALING JAYA: MCA Religious Harmony Bureau head Ti Lian Ker commended the police for foiling terror attacks, which were planned to be carried out yesterday, on Merdeka eve.
He was referring to the three arrests made against suspected Islamic State (IS) militants who had targeted entertainment outlets, a Hindu temple and the police themselves.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said earlier today that the three men, all in their twenties, were arrested by officers from the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Pahang between Aug 27 and Aug 29.
In a statement issued today, Ti called it “by far” the biggest and most symbolic celebration of Merdeka Day.
“Kudos to the police and IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar for a good job. Their good effort must be recorded and captured in maintaining law and order and safeguarding our peaceful existence and security,” Ti said.
“This is indeed the best news in the midst of our Merdeka Day celebration, without the pomp and ceremony.”
He claimed that in a very “heated” political atmosphere, the police have been unfairly targeted by politicians while forgetting the service they provided for the country.
“Generally our nation has been able to enjoy living in peace and harmony due to the sacrifices, diligence and hard work of our police force.
“Don’t let this good work and good news go unnoticed or be drowned by more pompous ceremony and negativity towards our police.”
