DUNGUN: Umno members have been advised not to be too sentimental and indebted to former Umno leaders who had now turned their backs and were no longer supporting the party.
“We are not denying that the said leaders had at one time contributed a lot to the party and country’s leadership, but they are also among those who are conspiring with the Opposition to topple Umno,” said Supreme Council member Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“So, I hope Umno members will stop being nostalgic about what they (former Umno leaders) have done as now the fight is different,” he said when opening the Dungun Umno assembly.
Ismail Sabri said the formation of a new party by former Umno leaders Muhyiddin Yassin and Dr Mahathir Mohamad was a clear manifestation of Malay disunity in national politics.
“We believe that only Umno is capable of bringing the Malays towards the pinnacle of achievement. Thus, the power in our hands now needs to be defended as Malay strength depends on Umno,” he added.
