S’porean among 3 m-cyclists killed in Kluang


JOHOR BAHRU: A Singaporean was among three motorcyclists killed in an accident involving three motorcycles at Km45 Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing in Kluang, near here last night.

The three who perished in the accident were identified as Mohamed Hassan Ali, 65, a farmer, his son-in-law from Singapore, Noraripen Surni, 48, who was riding pillion with the former and Muhamad Hafiz Ghazali, 21. while the rider of another motorcycle, Muhammad Ekmal Yussry Md Yassin, 19, suffered serious injuries and was admitted to the Kluang Hospital.

Kluang Police Chief ACP Mohamad Laham said during the 12.40am incident, Muhamad Hafiz’s motorcycle was hit by the motorcycle which Mohamed Hassan was riding as the former was coming out of a junction at Taman Ria.

Mohamed Hassan, who was coming from Kluang and heading to Ayer Hitam, could not brake in time and lost control before crushing into Mohamed Hassan’s motorcycle.

Muhamad Hafiz, Mohamed Hassan and Noraripen died on the spot and their bodies were sent to the Kluang Hospital for a post-mortem, he said.

This morning, three men died and three others were injured in a road accident involving two cars at Jalan Machap-Durian Tunggal in Alor Gajah near here, police said.

Alor Gajah Police Chief Supt A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the dead had been identified as P. Raman, 51, the driver of a Proton Waja ; Sin Jia Chung, 22, the driver of a Toyota Vios and Yong Heh Ah, also 22, a passenger of Sin’s.

Two other men in the Toyota Vios, Yau Chin Soon, 22, and Lee Sue Xuan, 23, were seriously injured while another man, Lee Lian Kuang, 22, was slightly injured in the accident that took place at about 5am, he said.

Asmadi said the injured were taken to the Malacca Hospital.

He said Raman, who was from Kampung Bertam Hulu, had been driving from Machap to Durian Tunggal and Sin, who was from Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan, had been driving in the opposite direction.

It had been raining and the road was wet at that time, he added.

The three bodies were taken to the Alor Gajah Hospital, he said.
