KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court will hear Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali’s bid to obtain leave to declassify the 1MDB Audit Report (Report) by the Auditor-General (A-G).
His lawyer, Michelle Kummar, informed the media the court will sit on October 26. Earlier, the lawyer attended case management before deputy registrar Norazlin Othman.
Azmin filed the challenge last month.
According to the Menteri Besar, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was in conflict of interest when he issued the certificate for the A-G to stamp the Report as a government secret.
He wants to compel Najib, the A-G and their servants to declassify the Report and make it available to the public.
Azmin also wants a declaration that the decision to classify the Report was against the Federal Constitution. Further, he wants the Report to be submitted to the Agong and presented in Parliament.
He named the Prime Minister, the A-G and the government as respondents in the judicial review.
Perkasa member Zahid Md Arip has also filed a similar challenge on the Report.
A-G Ambrin Buang told the Sessions Court, when testifying during the trial of Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, that he classified the 1MDB Final Report under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) for fear it would be leaked.
He cited the “leakage” of the 1MDB Interim Report as an example.
Rafizi has been charged with possessing and leaking the 1MDB Report during a press conference.
