PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) should not be “soiled” by associating with jailed Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, his former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan told Sinar Harian.
Saiful reportedly gave this advice to PPBM President Muhyiddin Yassin, who recently expressed sympathy for Anwar’s predicament and said the party is willing to work with Pakatan Harapan to help secure the release of the jailed former Opposition leader.
“Let him (Anwar) serve his sentence. He’ll be released eventually and may even get out early if he shows good behaviour.
“My advice is not to soil Bersatu, which is as pure as a newborn, with such filth,” Saiful posted on his Facebook.
Saiful also said it was not too late for Muhyiddin to steer PPBM away from the struggle to free Anwar as the public was more interested in knowing the party’s directions, policies and ideals.
Anwar is currently serving five years in jail after being convicted of sodomising Saiful – a charge which the former has maintained was politically motivated.
