KUALA LUMPUR: The public have been advised against buying and consuming the “Super Resdong” and “Mujarab Resdong Plus” products for sinusitis as they were found to have adverse effects to health.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, based on reports received, both the products can cause hepatitis, kidney malfunction, increase in body weight and rashes.
Those having stock of the products were advised to stop their sales, distribution and consumption immediately as action could be taken under the Sale of Drugs Act 1952 and Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984, he said in a statement which was uploaded on the Health Ministry Facebook page here last night.
He said those using the products should immediately seek medical advice and treatment from health professionals, while those who had taken them for a long time should not abruptly stop consumption as it could cause withdrawal syndrome problems like confusion and a drop in blood pressure which could endanger health.
The National Centre for Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring under the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) had received three reports related to “Super Resdong”, and one report on “Mujarab Resdong Plus”, he said.
Tests conducted on both products found that they contained dexamethasone (a corticosteroid) and chlorpheniramine (an antihistamine), which are controlled under the Poisons Act 1952, he added.
