KUALA LUMPUR: Students should be political, but this does not mean they should work for a political party full time, says Wong Chen of PKR, the MP for Kelana Jaya.
Wong said that politics was “inevitable” but students should not be concerned with “political issues of the day” but focus on the “bigger picture” instead, on issues such as economic inequality.
“Throw out all your worries about Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad or Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia but focus on the economic system,” Wong said at the National Student Congress today.
He called on the youth to be more involved in politics after “securing solid careers” and acquiring sufficient experience.
“During their careers, they should stay in touch with the NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and stay in touch with the political parties. After acquiring the experience, go out there and clock in your time,” said Wong.
The National Student Congress was also attended by other prominent PKR members, such as Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.
