JELEBU: Umno Supreme Council member Nazri Aziz says he will ensure Dr Mahathir Mohamad gets all the tools he needs to topple Prime Minister Najib Razak, via legal means.
“I’m giving an assurance on behalf of the Malaysian prime minister, any of his (Mahathir) legit and legal requests in his effort to topple the prime minister, we (government) will give.
“Tomorrow if he wants to do a street demonstration, please let me know.
“I will convince the police to give him a chance to demonstrate. Although when he was the prime minister, he wouldn’t allow us to do the same.
“What else does he think he needs to face the next general election?” Nazri asked in an interview with FMT.
He added the government had already graciously fast-tracked the approval of Mahathir’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), because they knew “the Opposition did not want him.”
The only thing the government will not give the former premier, was money, Nazri said when asked to comment on the 91-year-old’s meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on Thursday.
Former Batu Kawan Umno division vice-chairman Khairuddin Abu Hassan told FMT yesterday that in the meeting, Mahathir handed over the 1.4 million signatures he collected through the Citizens’ Declaration which called for, among others, the removal of Prime Minister Najib Razak from office.
“It clearly shows his deep resentment towards our prime minister to the point that he is even willing to do something that he knows won’t amount to much.
“But I understand that maybe the Agong has known Mahathir for so long, so maybe the latter only asked to meet for tea.
“But who is Mahathir? Who is he to cut short the term mandated to the prime minister?”
Nazri also said that the 1.4 million signatures allegedly collected by the Save Malaysia movement meant nothing.
“I believe if we want to, we can get three million (signatures in support of Najib) by tomorrow and the day after.”
