PETALING JAYA: Zaid Ibrahim says he is willing to take on Nazri Aziz of Umno if the latter challenges him to a straight fight in the next General Election (GE14).
The former Kota Bharu MP said this after taking Nazri to task over his criticism of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.
“What is there to be afraid of? Don’t they say that the brave only die once?” Zaid wrote in his blog admitting however, he could lose as he had neither the wealth nor influence that Nazri wielded.
Zaid issued the challenge in response to Nazri’s criticism of Mahathir’s actions in handing over documents collected through the Citizens’ Declaration to the Agong which among other demands, called for the removal of Prime Minister Najib Razak from office.
Belittling the meeting, Nazri told FMT it was likely Mahathir had only been asked to meet the King for tea. He also said Mahathir had no right to demand Najib’s term as PM be cut short and that the 1.4 million signatures allegedly collected by the Save Malaysia movement meant nothing.
“It seems that insulting Tun Mahathir is in Nazri’s portfolio,” Zaid added in deriding the Tourism and Culture Minister as not being suitable for a ministerial post for always issuing embarrassing statements.
“Other governments would be ashamed if their ministers were rude,” Zaid said, adding it was Nazri’s trademark before calling the Umno Supreme Council member a “coward” for putting his interests first by wanting Najib to remain in power.
Zaid, who was a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for a short period under the Abdullah Badawi administration, predicted Nazri would throw a fit after reading his latest blog post.
