Board of inquiry formed after soldiers fall into sea

Pulau PerakBUTTERWORTH: The Malaysian Armed Forces has set up a board of inquiry to find out how two soldiers fell into the sea at Pulau Perak, Kedah.

Second Division Commander Maj Gen Mohd Ramli Jaafar said: “We will also seek new mechanisms to avoid a repeat of the incident.”

He said this when met at the Seberang Jaya Hospital here Thursday.

The body of Corporal Mohd Faizol Rosli, 29, was found at 10.30 am Thursday, about 30 metres from where he reportedly fell.

The body of the other soldier who fell, Corporal Johbartlee Kanil, 32, has yet to be recovered.

Mohd Faizol and Johbartlee, were reported missing about 4.40pm on Monday after they fell into the sea while fetching water.

The search for Johbartlee continues.

Meanwhile, Rosli Hassan, 55, said he heard about the discovery of his son’s body at 11am from soldiers who came to his house in Kampung Sungai Limau, Pulai, Baling, Kedah.

“I am saddened by the incident as Mohd Faizol was a good son and was always helpful despite being married,” he said when met at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

The body was taken to Kampung Sungai Limau for burial at the Muslim cemetery in Kuala Kuang, Baling, last night.

Also present at the hospital were Mohd Faizol’s wife, Siti Aminah Abdul Hamid, 31, and their two children, Nur Wasiim Aqilah, 3, and Nur Maisarah Saadiah,1.
