PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Najib Razak must explain in detail the foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic investment increase as listed in Budget 2017, PKR MP Wong Chen said today.
This after the prime minister revealed that the total approved FDI was more than RM28 billion during the first half of 2016.
In tabling Budget 2017 in Parliament today, Najib said the FDI represented an increase of 32% compared with the same period last year.
Najib, who is also the finance minister, went on to claim that this excluded the approved domestic investment which totalled more than RM60 billion.
Wong, who is PKR’s Investment and Trade chairman, however found this “hard to believe”.
“I do not see where the “domestic investments” are coming from.
“What does he mean by investments? He needs to clarify as there are two types of investments. One is an announced investment and the other is an actual investment,” he told FMT.
Wong was however, skeptical that Najib would elaborate on the matter.
