KUALA LUMPUR: The government will conduct a thorough investigation soonest possible to identify the cause of the fire at the Intensive Care Unit of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) in Johor Bahru today.
Prime Minister Najib Razak said the government would also increase security at the hospital.
“Sad to hear the news of some (patients) killed in the fire. Condolences to the families of the victims killed in the Sultanah Aminah Hospital fire,” he said in his Facebook and Twitter posting.
Najib also said the police, Health Ministry, and Fire and Rescue personnel were managing the situation at the scene of the incident.
Six patients perished in the fire that broke out just before 9am today at the ICU south ward on the second floor of the hospital.
State Fire and Rescue Department Director Othman Abdullah said 166 firefighters in 10 fire trucks were rushed to HSA after the emergency call was received.
