Sanjeevan charged with ‘insulting’ IGP

PETALING JAYA: MyWatch chairman R. Sri Sanjeevan pleaded not guilty on Thursday at the Sessions Court for allegedly posting insulting remarks directed at the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

He was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act for posting a Facebook status (“Khalid, are you an idiot?”).

The anti crime activist was said to have committed the offence on September 3 at USJ 1, Subang Jaya.

Sessions Court judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh granted Sanjeevan bail at RM3,000 with a surety and fixed November 28 as the next mention date.

Lawyer Preakas Sampunathan represented Sanjeevan.

Deputy public prosecutor Nordin Ismail appeared for the prosecution.

Former de facto Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim also faces prosecution, in a similar case, for a blog posting last year. He urged that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak be removed.
