WAO-Executive-Director

KUALA LUMPUR: The Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) has opened a domestic abuse drop-in centre in Kuala Lumpur.

It’s an entry point for women to access WAO’s shelter and social work services.

The drop-in centre is strategically located in Kuala Lumpur, according to a WAO statement.

“It’s close to the Masjid Jamek and Central Market LRT stations.

“Women can meet face-to-face with a counsellor, without needing to schedule an appointment beforehand,” WAO Executive Director Sumitra Visvanathan said.

She explained that WAO opened the centre, “so that more survivors of domestic violence can access crucial services”.

Professional counsellors will staff the drop-in centre, according to the statement. They can advise clients on issues related to domestic violence and gender discrimination.

Women can contact WAO through multiple channels.

In addition to the drop-in centre, women can also call the WAO Hotline at 03-7956 3488, or SMS/WhatsApp Tina at 018-988 8058.

The drop-in centre is located at 2F RUANG by ThinkCity, 2 Jalan Hang Kasturi, 50050 Kuala Lumpur.

The drop-in centre is open on Mondays from 5pm to 7pm, from Oct 24 to Dec 5, 2016.

WAO is currently the largest service provider for domestic violence survivors in Malaysia.
