KUALA LUMPUR: A 34-year-old local man armed with a parang was shot dead while trying to attack three policemen in Taman Muhibbah, Kajang.

Kajang district police chief Othman Nanyan said the police had been investigating a report by a member of the public earlier about an attack on two men.

“As soon as they arrived at the suspect’s house at about 2.50pm and introduced themselves, the man suddenly punched one of them,” he told Bernama yesterday.

Othman said the man then ran back into the house and emerged with a parang, running towards the policemen. He did not stop when asked to surrender, and was shot by the police in self-defence, Othman said.

The man died four hours later while receiving treatment at Kajang Hospital.
