Semenyih water treatment plant back on line

PETALING JAYA: The Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant is back in operation, Selangor water company Syabas said today.

“The plant is back in operation and we have started to channel treated water to the reservoirs in stages since 3.15am,” the company said on its Facebook page.

Syabas said the company mobilised water tankers, activated jumbo tanker stations and public water standpipes to help those affected while waiting for water supply to recover.

The plant had suspended operations at 4.15pm on Friday when a bund at Sungai Buah in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, gave way following a heavy downpour upstream.

The river was the source of contamination of raw water earlier in the week.

Syabas urged the public to avoid congesting its hotline and to seek updated information from its website, MySyabas mobile phone app, or the Facebook pages of Puspel, Syabas or Air Selangor.

The public can also request for supply by water tankers by sending an SMS “tanker” to 15300.
