Students help bring Deepavali cheer to homeless

Deepavali, homeless,PETALING JAYA: About 300 homeless people and underprivileged children from the Chow Kit area were given a Deepavali treat today at Pusat Transit Gelandangan, a government centre in Kuala Lumpur for the homeless

Student volunteers from two private colleges took part in the celebration, helping to decorate the centre, and distributng food and drinks.

Among the students who took part were Tan Suet Mun, 19, of Segi College Kuala Lumpur. “I think it is meaningful for the homeless. I’m so happy that they were able to enjoy this day,” she said.

Computer Engineering student Ndom Clifford, 21, from Nigeria, expressed interest in the traditional Indian clothing worn by some of those who took part.

The event was organised by Institute Onn Jaffar and Yayasan Chow Kit with food and drinks provided by Parkroyal Kuala Lumpur and Gombak Food Delivery.
