KUALA LUMPUR: There is no reason for the Opposition to hide the identity of its chosen candidate for the Prime Minister’s post any longer, says Gerakan Youth Chief Tan Keng Liang.
“It conveys the impression they don’t have a good candidate,” he said in a statement today when commenting on the conflicting announcements thus far by the Opposition as to who their choice for PM would be.
He also said he doubted the Opposition could lead the country effectively if they could not even agree on this matter and called for partners in Pakatan Harapan to reveal their candidate of choice during its Convention on Saturday to end speculations that have been brewing these past two months.
At the end of September, he recalled that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) advisor Mahathir Mohamad said Muhyiddin Yassin would be Prime Minister if the Opposition won in the 14th General Election.
This however was at odds, he said, with DAP’s assurance that former Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim would be PM.
So, who really is the Opposition’s choice for the Prime Minister’s post, Tan asked, adding, “This is a fundamental question the Opposition must answer.”
