PETALING JAYA: Police this afternoon raided the Bersih 2.0 office, less than 24 hours before the electoral reform group takes to the streets of Kuala Lumpur for the Bersih 5 rally.
A tweet by Bersih secretariat member Mandeep Singh said:
“Bukit Aman in our office. Want to rampas all our barang. Its a raid under 124C.”
Mandeep tweeted this at 3.12pm this afternoon.
Section 124c of the Penal Code says that “whoever attempts to commit an activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy or does any act preparatory thereto shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to fifteen years”.
Members from Lawyers for Liberty are also at the scene, according to the NGO’s Twitter.
“Raiding @bersih2 office will not stop #Bersih5. Our lawyers are at Bersih’s office now,” Lawyers for Liberty tweeted.
Earlier this afternoon, The Star reported that DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke was also arrested and taken to the Federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.
Loke was allegedly picked up for questioning pertaining to his speech at the Pakatan Harapan Convention last Saturday.
He was accompanied by lawyer and Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.
