KUALA LUMPUR: There will never be an alliance between PAS and Umno, insists the Islamist party’s Syura Council member Khairuddin Aman Razali.
Speaking to reporters at the Dewan Rakyat lobby, he said PAS will only cooperate with Umno on certain matters.
“PAS has its own way when it comes to national politics.
“We will cooperate with Umno or the government if it’s for a good cause. For example, the hudud bill.
“But, I stress that there will never be an alliance between PAS and Umno.”
He was responding to Umno Supreme Council member Annuar Musa, who said yesterday that it is not impossible for Umno to accept PAS, as both parties basically had the same struggle, upheld the same ambitions and were born out of the same DNA.
Talk about cooperation between PAS and Umno has come up from time to time, especially with PAS’ reluctance to join the chorus calling for the prime minister’s resignation as well as its hesistation in joining Pakatan Harapan.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who wants the party to practise mature politics, had previously said it would support Umno on some occasions.
Meanwhile, when asked on the progress of the hudud bill, which has made its way into the Parliament order paper, Khairuddin expressed confidence that it will be tabled in this session.
“I’m positive. Just wait and see because the government would be done with the budget debate either by today or tomorrow.
“So, we still have Wednesday and Thursday. I’m confident that it will be tabled in Parliament.”
