KUALA LUMPUR: A sum of RM5 million will be allocated to restore the road and other areas affected by Saturday’s landslide in Taman Idaman, Serendah, said Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.
He said the work would be carried out by the state Public Works Department (JKR) as soon as the Minerals and Geoscience Department gives a full report on the condition of the area.
“Short and long-term remedial works will be carried out to prevent a recurrence of the incident. So far, sheet piling has been carried out,” he told reporters after visiting residents affected by the landslide.
“The source of underground water will also be identified. The source of the leaking water is not from damaged water mains because the flow of water did not stop even after Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) turned off water supply,” he said.
Azmin said the JKR would conduct forensic investigation on buildings in the area to ensure that they were safe for occupation.
He presented RM500 to each of the 64 families forced to evacuate their homes following the landslide.
