Man dies in accident after botched robbery attempt

House owner gives chase in his car and finds suspect sprawled on the ground after motorcycle had crashed, but accomplice escapes.

A man died following an accident while trying to escape after failing to break into a house in Taman Nusantara, Gelang Patah, here, on Tuesday morning.

Iskandar Puteri District Police chief Supt Noor Hashim Mohamad said Mohammad Shah Fizzan Mohamad Hairani, 25, had earlier tried to climb the fence of a house in the area before he was spotted by the house owner who shouted at him.

He said the suspect who was startled by the shouting immediately fled the scene with a waiting accomplice on a motorcycle.

“The house owner gave chase in his car for about four kilometres before he found the motorcycle, which had crashed into the concrete retaining wall by the roadside.

“Mohammad Shah Fizzan was found sprawled on the ground and injured while his friend had escaped,” Noor Hashim told reporters at the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters here yesterday.

According to police, the man was taken to the Gelang Patah Health Clinic before being referred to Sultan Ismail Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 6.50pm the same day.
