SHAH ALAM:
Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has expressed its support to have all opposition parties contest under one logo in the upcoming general election.

Amanah President Mohamad Sabu said this was a necessary measure to defeat the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) pact.

“Amanah along with our partners in Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) are committed with the plan to form a united opposition alliance, contesting under one logo, with one manifesto and a combined machinery.”

He was speaking to delegates at his party’s national convention here today.

His statement echoed that of PPBM Chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad who last month emphasised the importance of a collaboration between all opposition parties.

Mahathir, who was prime minister for over 22 years, said a straight fight against BN may be the best way to ensure the opposition would succeed in its goal of becoming the government after the next general election.

Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, agreed, adding that for BN to be defeated, the opposition pact needed to have a clear direction.

“Any political pact hoping to challenge the BN, must present a clear structure and policies, bound by an unbreakable agreement and understanding.

“Only this form of political alliance can provide a solution to the political dilemma faced by our country,” he said.

Also present at this morning’s convention was Mahathir, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar and DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.
