At the same time, he praised the spirit of cooperation of the villagers who helped the injured victims without waiting for a rescue team to arrive on the scene first.

“InsyaAllah (God willing), the state government will facilitate the admission of the injured to hospitals here,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

In the mishap, Mahani Ngah, 42, and her two children, Quratulnisa, 11, and Ahmad Nijat, nine, were killed.

Also killed were Mahani’s brother-in-law, Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman, 63, wife, Pauziyah Awang and the couple’s granddaughter, Sofea Adriana Shahruddin, seven.

Those injured were Mahani’s husband, Ahmad Nasal, 52, and sons, Ahmad Shakir, 12, Ahmad Mukriz, three, and Quratul Ain, 14.

The accident occurred about 6pm at the 288.6km stretch after the Chukai toll exit when the multi-purpose vehicle driven by Ahmad Nasal skidded from a punctured front tyre and crashed into a road divider before ramming into a pole ahead.

Those undergoing treatment at the Kemaman Hospital are Ahmad Nasal and Ahmad Shakir while Ahmad Mukriz and Quratul Ain are being warded at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.

At 10.30 this morning, the remains of Mahani and her two children were buried in a common grave in the Kampung Durian Guling Muslim cemetery here.

The remains of Ahmad Razif, Pauziyah and Sofea Adriana were buried in Section 21, Shah Alam in Selangor this afternoon.
