KUALA LUMPUR:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized and frozen assets totalling RM185,962,819 from 2014 to November this year, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Razali Ibrahim.

He said of the total, RM157,314,532 worth of assets were seized this year, RM9,331,769 last year and RM19,316,510 in 2014.

“The assets were confiscated to facilitate investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA),” he said when winding up debate on the 2017 Supply Bill in the Dewan Negara today.

He said five corruption cases were prosecuted under AMLA this year, eight cases last year and one in 2014.

Razali added that from January to November this year, the commission had opened 95 investigation papers related to corruption cases in connection with government development projects involving public, private sector employees and individuals.

He said MACC is committed to discharging its responsibilities and would take action against those involved in corruption and abuse of power, as defined under existing laws.
