Speaking to FMT, Azman said this was because the opposition was beginning to capitalise on Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) influence in Umno areas.
He was commenting on a statement by former Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal who recently predicted that BN would lose in the three states.
“PPBM, led by Muhyiddin Yassin, can win the seats they are contesting in Johor, but it will not be easy.”
Azman said contests for seats currently held with less than 3,000 majority votes will depend on the circumstances during GE14.
“In Terengganu, it will depend a lot on what former menteri besar Ahmad Said does, such as whether he will enter a pact with PPBM.”
In Kedah, Azman said, PPBM would use the influence of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his son, former menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir. The two former Umno leaders are now in PPBM.
He said in Kedah, the focus would be on seats that Umno had won marginally in the last general election.
At a recent Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) event in Beaufort, Shafie, who is Warisan president, said his party would wrest Sabah from BN.
However, Azman is not confident of Warisan’s chances in Sabah, as BN is still strong in the state.
He added that if the 13 proposed new state seats were approved, it would give BN another advantage as these seats were favourable to BN.
Meanwhile, DAP’s Abdul Aziz Bari said an opposition victory in the four states could lead to a new federal government.
He said some studies showed a mere 2% swing in votes in favour of the opposition would be enough to wrest Putrajaya from BN.
“What is important is that the electoral system is not manipulated by the Election Commission.”
