‘No point asking PAS to join Pakatan’

PETALING JAYA: A DAP leader today said it was pointless to persuade PAS to join Pakatan Harapan (PH) to fight against Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election.

Perak DAP deputy chairman V Sivakumar said it was an open secret that PAS was now close to Umno.

“When the party is closer with Umno, there is no need for the opposition leaders to persuade the PAS leaders. PAS and Umno have their own agenda.

“Whether MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP and other BN component parties in Sabah and Sarawak will bless the marriage of PAS-Umno, we are not sure yet. We have to wait and see about that,” he said in a statement today.

On Dec 13, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had said the opposition parties should stop attacking the Islamist party if they wanted to persuade it to go against BN in the 14th general election.

Elaborating further on the matter, Sivakumar, who is also the Batu Gajah MP, said PH should be prepared to deal with the PAS-Umno tie-up as there would likely be three-cornered fights in GE14.

“The people can determine which parties will make a difference and save the rakyat and the country.

“Pakatan Harapan cannot wait for anybody. It should have a strategy and go to the ground immediately to explain our side of the story.

“This is not an easy matter. But it needs to be done.”

According to him, with a good strategy, the three-cornered fights would not be a problem, especially when people know the agenda between PAS and Umno.

“Malaysians can judge for themselves the actions of PAS and Umno. Let them make their own decisions whether to vote or not for PAS.

“A vote for PAS is a vote for Umno,” he said.
