PETALING JAYA:
Jamal Yunos should not think he is above the law, said DAP’s Sekinchan Assemblyman Ng Suee Lim.

He was commenting on Jamal’s accusation that the Selangor government had demolished his resort in retaliation for his criticism of the state government over the recent water disruption in the Klang Valley.

Denying this, Ng said Jamal could not simply operate a resort without a licence

“He didn’t abide by the local authorities’ legal requirements. He had no licence, no planning approval and, in fact, this matter had been discussed many times,” he told FMT.

“Jamal acts as he pleases, as if he is above the law. He should repent and be a good example to the public, instead of acting against the law.”

Ng also told FMT that Jamal, who is Umno Sungai Besar division chief, had been fined several times for operating the resort without a licence.

He paid the fines, but still failed to apply for a licence or carry out upgrading work on the premise, added Ng.

Jamal’s Sekin Fishermen Village Hotel & Resort was demolished by the Sabak Bernam District Council (MDSB) yesterday afternoon.

According to a notice served by MDSB, the action was taken under the MDSB’s Hotel Bylaws 2013. It stated an inspection by MDSB personnel found that Jamal had been operating a hotel without a valid licence under the bylaws.

Jamal, however, alleged that it was an act of revenge by Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, for his “towel protest” outside the state secretariat building just a day earlier.

Jamal had turned up at the building clad only in towels to show the plight faced by over 3.8 million Klang Valley residents who were affected by the planned water supply disruption.

“Jamal’s claim that we are bullying him is baseless,” said Ng in response to Jamal’s allegation.
