GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has appointed 12 area coordinators, two of them new faces, to work in areas that Pakatan Harapan did not win in the last polls and to be their “eyes and ears”.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the 10 appointments were for state constituencies, while the two others were for parliament areas.
“Their job is to be the liaison between the Penang government and the electorate in the areas, helping them resolve issues that might arise.
“They will also serve as the eyes and ears of the Penang government, especially in the implementation of state government programmes.
“It goes to show that we do not ignore areas held by Barisan Nasional; we are fair to all.
“These coordinators will also convey messages on state policies and dispel malicious lies spread against the Penang government,” he said in a press conference in Komtar today.
Of the 12, two are new appointees. Ramli Omar of Amanah was appointed Penaga coordinator while fellow party member Azhar Mat Dali was appointed Central Seberang Prai coordinator.
There are six representatives from PKR and five from Amanah. The sole DAP representative, Lay Hock Peng, is coordinator for North Seberang Prai.
The 12 took an oath of secrecy in the presence of the chief minister after the press conference today.
