PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) officer who spoke at a forum yesterday explaining how khalwat raids were conducted has come out to explain that he was not speaking on behalf of Jais.
Speaking to FMT, Hairul Nizan Mhd Idris, who works for Jais’ Hulu Langat division, said he was speaking only based in his capacity as a panelist in yesterday’s forum.
Hairul’s statement was a response to a question from the FMT journalist who attended the forum.
“I only answered the question based on my experience having been part of raids before and not on behalf of the religious department.
“The problem is that when it comes to news, readers don’t take the time to read the story, they only read the title. When you have the word Jais on the title as well as its logo, people immediately think that what is being said is from Jais, this was not the case yesterday,” he told FMT.
In yesterday’s story, it was reported that a Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) officer had spoken up in defence of the religious authorities accused of arresting a married couple for khalwat (close proximity) last month despite them having a marriage certificate.
Hairul, however, said this was inaccurate.
“I was not speaking on behalf of any party and I was not defending any party. I was merely explaining what happens during a religious authorities raid.”
