China boost for 4 key industries in Malaysia
Chinese tourists cannot get enough of Langkawi while corporate China would love to ramp up investment in the tourism, seafood, rubber, and solar energy industries, says envoy.
He said China was looking forward to more strategic partnerships with Malaysia in these four industries, to further cement the relationship that had grown warmer between the two countries in recent years.
Huang cited as an example the Kedah Integrated Fisheries Terminal (KIFT), a joint-venture project, to develop a world-class fishing terminal.
KIFT is a joint-venture between China’s Qingdao Lu Hai Feng and the Kedah government. The terminal expected to process close to a million tonnes of tuna a year will take shape on 2,000 hectares of reclaimed land on the foreshore of Kuala Kedah.
Huang said the Chinese also wished to produce more solar panels in Malaysia to serve increasing worldwide demand.
Huang said China was also interested in Malaysian rubber and was eager to invest in Kedah’s Rubber City which had a reported gross development value of more than RM11 billion.
The project on 400ha of land in Bukit Ketapang was started by the state government to increase the state’s rubber output.
Meanwhile, tourists from China had an insatiable appetite for Langkawi, with many giving the island rave reviews, he said.
Huang had earlier called on Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah at his office at Wisma Darulaman in Alor Star.
Kedah Industry and Investment Committee chairperson Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail said the state welcomed foreign investments, especially those from China.
