KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today challenged Seputeh MP Teresa Kok to repeat her accusation that he served the developers instead of the people outside the Dewan Rakyat.
“Yang Berhormat (Kok), you try saying that I am a minister for developers outside (the Dewan Rakyat).
“I will sue you,” he said during a debate in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Kok had been furious with the minister for stating that some parties had betrayed Kuala Lumpur by objecting to its development.
The dispute between Tengku Adnan, who is Putrajaya MP, and Kok began when he refused to gazette the Draft Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020.
“I do not agree that the draft plan should be gazetted. What we want to do is improve, not worsen the problem,” he said.
Kok had repeatedly questioned City Hall for allowing high-density developments to take place on land meant for public use.
“A lot of government land in Kuala Lumpur has been sold to developers and there are some who have been allowed to buy more than others.
“Why have they been been granted such privileges?
“The minister (Tengku Adnan) sits on the side of the rich. He does not know the difficulties and hardship,” she said, adding that Kuala Lumpur was fast becoming a disorganised city.
Tengku Adnan argued that those who objected to high-density developments were often the ones who bought such properties.
“I do not want to quarrel with Yang Berhormat (Kok), I will take into account the views that have been raised and I will fix what is required.
“My goal is simple. I develop my area to provide affordable housing so that developers can build homes of 900sq ft for under RM200,000 for the people.”
