Former special aide to Mukhriz applies for debate permit

JITRA: Former special aide to Mukhriz Mahathir today applied to the police for a permit to hold a debate with his former employer.

Haris Che Mat, who was special political officer to Mukhriz when he was the Kedah menteri besar, arrived at the Kubang Pasu district police headquarters here at 2.30pm accompanied by a friend.

“I propose that the debate be held this Saturday (April 8), with April 15 as the alternative date since the organiser is required to make the application to the district police officer 10 days before the event.”

Haris said the dialogue titled “The Wealth of Mahathir’s Children” was scheduled to be held at 3pm on April 8 at Hotel Sera Inn, Padang Sera, Jerlun.

“I want to clarify that Umno is not involved as the dialogue is between the former special officer and Datuk Seri Mukhriz, who was the Kedah menteri besar.

“The debate is necessary because the people need to know how Mahathir’s children amassed their wealth. It is my responsibility to reveal it.

“It is up to the police to give the approval since it comes under their jurisdiction.

“My present treatment for kidney stones is not a problem,” he told reporters outside the building.

On March 23, Haris challenged Mukhriz to a debate on his and his siblings’ wealth, believed to amount to billions of ringgit.

Haris is Pokok Sena Umno vice-chief and Mukhriz is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president.
