ALOR SETAR: A Rohingya man was sentenced to 10 days jail and fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here today for offering a RM50 bribe to a policeman.
Judge Zanol Rashid Hussain passed the sentence after the accused Noor Salam Ibrahim, 41, pleaded guilty when the charge was read out to him.
The court ordered the accused to serve a 100-day jail term should he fail to raise the money to settle the fine.
Noor Salam, a father of seven children, was charged with offering a RM50 bribe to Corporal Alias Othman from the Mahang police station, as an inducement not to take action against him for driving a van without a licence.
He had committed the offence at 3.10pm in front of the Mahang police station, Kulim, on March 31.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy public prosecutor A. Hafiizh Abu Bakar appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
