KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has asked all parties not to dispute efforts to improve the legal system to uphold Islam.
The deputy prime minister said Malaysians should respect Islam as the federal religion as enshrined in the constitution.
“We are very sad if there are those who question these efforts and those persons or groups are not of the same faith as us. We do not intend to touch on other religions.
“You are with your religion and I am with my religion. Please respect my religion if you want me to respect yours,” he said when officiating the Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Ulul Albab 2017 Convention here last night.
Zahid said as a country with diverse races and religions, the people were free to practise their religion but should always be tolerant and emphasise on the pure values such as those found in every religious teaching.
